About Us

Pine Mountain Volunteer Fire Department

The volunteer fire department of Pine Mountain was established in 1987 by concerned members of the community. The State of Arkansas has the highest rate of Arson and loss of lives due to fire. Children have been the victims in many of these fires. The State Fire Academy in Camden offered matching grants to build a building for the housing of equipment. The State and the Forestry Commission offered used equipment and offered a course in fighting wild land fires. The Academy sent out instructors to teach basic fire fighting and pro-gear.

Now the community had fire firefighters, trucks and the rating went from a class 10 to class 9. The insurance companies gave discounts to those communities which had volunteer fire departments. Dues for each household have been set at $25.00 per year.

As the first year went by, we had many wild land fires, but with no hospital or ambulance service, our calls turned to medical emergencies.

In 1988, four firefighters became First Responders. As medical calls became increasingly more complex, the training had to be intensified. The volunteer fire department boasts of two medical technicians. We are now capable to operate and automatic defibrillator. We have met the State Department of Health Regulations for a certified vehicle, and have a medical director.

The Fire Chief and two other firefighters are Hazmat Certified, and we have automatic response with our neighboring fire departments.

We are a community of 110 homes a mixed population of retirees, working couples, and families raising children.

The location of Pine Mountain is in the northern section of Marion County, bordering Boone County. We are surrounded by Bull Shoals Lake, only one road is paved. Yellville, the county seat is 27 miles from our location. We are accessed by County Road 14 which is 11½ miles to the west.

Our plans for the future look bright, four young volunteers have joined our department, and with aggressive work and effort we will lower our Fire Classification to an eight. A planned development of 100 homes and an air field means that a sub station will have to be built. Webb's Landing as it is called has offered our unit a 2-3 acre parcel for consideration.
